CPT Assignment- Architecture
Architecture is the art and
science of designing buildings and structures. For this assignment we were
to take pictures of things that had interesting design while touring downtown
Ottawa. These were a few of my favourites.
This first shot was taken at
the Art Gallery. While descending the steps to the main floor I decided to
take the shot. It turned out well, though I would have liked it better if
light had been shining through the top window as well. In order to appreciate
this photo you have to look past just the concrete. It may have a simple design,
but just on the other side of that doorway the light from the windows can
shine through and it creates an amazing effect that I just loved.
This second photograph is of
a gazebo located on Parliament Hill. Though I’m sure it would have made
quite a nice natural frame, I liked the structure itself, not something I
would be framing. So I chose only to take a picture of the building, focusing
on its original design. Also the fact that I was cloudy worked out perfectly.
The background colour is amazing and allows the viewer to clearly focus on
the architectural awe of the structure. The only thing I wished I had done
differently would be to level the shot a bit better and cut out the distracting
subject on the left hand side of the image.
For this third and final shot,
I did not think that the statue its self was particularly interesting, atop
Parliament Hill. But from the angle that I was taking the picture from it
had a nice effect. At that point a bird had flown on to the man’s head.
Alone this would not have meant much, but the man at the bottom of the statue
made it look like he saw the bird and was trying to warn the other man or
shoo the bird away. I simply thought that the amusement this bird brought
to this otherwise, unappealing statue made it a good photograph
