Assignment #6a
-Digital Retouching

For this assignment, an image
was given, and it was up to us to use the program called Photoshop to remove
all the distracting subject matter within the photo. First, a part of the
woman in the black shirt had to be removed. In order to do this, a tool called
a clone stamp was used. It would copy an area that was selected and then use
that same pattern to fill in what was erased as it moved along. Once that
body had been taken out f the photograph, the next step was to rebuild the
play structure. By using the same cloning tool as before it was easy to blend
the colours into something that looked exactly like the missing corner of
the play structure. Also by changing the brush size it was easier to get into
smaller spots, or closer to other objects without changing them. Once that
was complete, the photo was cropped, by using a rectangular marquee tool.
This allowed me to simply cut the photo down enough that I could include what
was needed in the frame. Finally, all that needed to be taken out were the
pair of jeans near the purple hat. Once again the same tools were used and
the grass and tarp were retouched so that they blended well.
Assignment #6b- Computer Manipulation

Again I used Photoshop to combine
these two images together. They were both taken at the same park, however
there is some difference in the lighting. Once in Photoshop I decided that
I like the two rows of trees going off towards the lake, and kept it as my
background. First, the lasso tool was used in order for me to outline roughly
the man and the bench in the other photo. Next, I deleted the background in
photo 1 and created a layer that only contained the man and the bench. Once,
this layer was place over photo 2, I used the movement tool so I could place
the bench where I needed it and proceeded to use the clone tool to blend the
edges so that it would match the background in photo 2. Finally I used the
clone tool to get rid of the people where the trees come to a point as well
as getting rid of the garbage can on the right side of the image. The only
difficulties that I ran into was that I figured there should be a slight shadow
cast by the bench in the finished photo. However, no matter how hard I tried,
I could never get it to look right. In the end I just left it without the
added shadow.

We had to once again use one
of our own images and combine it with others to make something believable,
yet our finished product had to look bizarre. This image was really fun to
create. Yet again it was done using Photoshop. The first image is one that
I had previously taken on a trip to Italy. The rest have all been grabbed
from the internet. I began by saving my 1st image as my background layer.
Then I chose a second image, a terradactyl, and added it to Photoshop. By
using the lasso tool, I selected only the animal from the photo, creating
another layer and placed that over photo 1. From there I used the eraser tool
to take off some of the edge that was left by the lasso tool. Again I used
the clone tool to blend the two layers together, varying the size of the brush
to do so. Next I added a picture of a girl sitting in a chair, and used the
same tools as the bird to make it fit the picture, although I did have to
add her shadow. Though none of these things have anything in common I had
the most fun creating this picture.
