Assignment 1

Horizon Lines

Low Horizon

In this first image I tried to place the horizon line as low as I could while still keeping the sailboats in the frame. Though I did like how the sky looked, I do not particularly think that the horizon had much of an effect. More or less I think that the sky became the prime subject, and it the sailboats are distracting.

The horizon is the line that divides earth and sky. In photographs there are three typical placement regions: high, middle, and low.

Mid Horizon

This photograph has its horizon place in the middle. Even though the trees frame the shot nicely, it is the horizon line, which adds a great deal of depth to the picture. Also in this image the sky is clearer which makes it less distracting.

High Horizon

Finally, this is a high horizon, and it was taken on our trip downtown. I think that in this case the horizon line defiantly adds interest to the photograph. If you were to imagine the image without the sky and only the building, it certainly would not have the same effect as the original.
